Ivet Dimitrova, Parasocial, 2026
Durational Performance. From 12:00 noon on June 22 to 12:00 noon on June 23, 2026

A parasocial relationship is a one-sided emotional attachment to a media personality. The admirer constructs their own image of a real person, turning them into an icon. Part of the role of the contemporary artist is to be a public figure. The perception of their identity is formed based on their art, without the need for physical presence. However, if the viewer is given a chance to get to know them directly, the image crumbles and the imperfections of their character are revealed.
With this project, the artist offers the audience a direct connection to themselves through touch. The viewer is invited to engage in physical interaction, as every contact with the artist triggers speech fragments extracted from recordings of their voice. The selected segments are verbal intrusions that signal discomfort. The body represents an inviolable object of art when observed from a distance and a frozen state of unease during close contact.
