Gallery AUTOMATIC is the latest initiative of the DA LAB Foundation, whose profile is the presentation and production of digital arts. The project is unique in two directions. First, as a specialized space for the presentation of digital arts in Bulgaria. Second, with its automated access and functioning, it creates an innovative gallery practice without analogues.
Gallery AUTOMATIC operates on the principle of a vending machine, similar to other automated systems for offering services and products in an urban environment. The way in which the exhibited works are accessed is consistent with the way in which they function, i.e. it will present digital art, whose presentation, method of creation or action are related to automated and interactive processes.
Gallery AUTOMATIC offers the audience direct contact with the presented works of art on the principle of “insert a coin and enter” (respectively mark with a card and enter). Automatic admission and 24/7 working hours turn Gallery AUTOMATIC into a public space. A video surveillance system complements the tools for accessing and sharing content, while also ensuring security for the artworks. This interactive project in form and content will fill a niche in the contemporary art scene in Sofia, namely a gallery specializing in the presentation of digital arts.
AUTOMATIC Gallery presents a selection of works created with digital media, which reveal different artistic practices and approaches in the field of contemporary art using new media, artificial intelligence, science and innovative technologies. The selection includes artists from Bulgaria and abroad, who will present a new project created specifically for the space or an existing work that meets the concept and format of presentation. Part of the selection includes authors presented in previous editions of the international digital arts festival DA Fest, organized by the DA LAB Foundation in collaboration with the National Academy of Arts in Sofia
The exhibitions will last between 1 and 2 months, i.e. from 6 to 12 exhibitions per year.
